Apocopated words

The apocopated words (Abbreviation of a word by omitting the final sound or sounds) Shouldn't be confused with Truncated words

Apocopated words aren't truncated, which means that the short version of this word is acceptable.

Examples with apocopated words:

Let's suppose that a person says: " My flight from San Fran to Newark is delayed."

The correct way to transcribe is:

  • [00:00:12] My flight from San Fran to Newark is delayed.

It's incorrect to transcribe like this:

  • [00:00:12] My flight from San Fran* to Newark is delayed.

As we see, "San Fran" is the apocopated word for San Francisco, so we don't use asterisk sign because it isn't truncated. Let's see another example: " Thank you for calling the exec desk, my name is Julia."

The correct way to transcribe is:

  • [00:00:32] Thank you for calling the exec desk, my name is Julia.

It's incorrect to transcribe like this:

  • [00:00:32] Thank you for calling the exec* desk, my name is Julia.

"Exec" makes reference to "executive".

Some other apocopated words:
